Synopsis

Fantasy Comedy Series • Half-Hour Format

Génie is a single-camera fantasy comedy series that blends grounded emotional storytelling with magical spectacle, following a Persian-American family navigating grief, loneliness, identity, and the complicated desire to escape pain instead of confronting it.

Set in modern-day Los Angeles, the series centers on Ava — an overworked psychologist struggling to keep her private practice afloat while quietly unraveling beneath the weight of loss, emotional exhaustion, and a life that no longer feels connected to the future she imagined for herself. After accidentally summoning an ancient Genie bound to a mysterious family relic, Ava’s carefully controlled world is thrown into chaos as impossible magic collides with deeply human problems no wish can truly solve.

As Ava, her emotionally guarded father, free-spirited sister, and an increasingly curious Genie begin orbiting one another, the series explores how grief reshapes families, how loneliness distorts desire, and how even the best intentions can carry unintended consequences.

Blending cinematic fantasy with grounded comedy and heartfelt character relationships, Génie uses magic not simply as spectacle, but as an extension of emotion, vulnerability, longing, and the universal temptation to wish our problems away.
